At the weekend my sons football team won only their second point of the season. They came back from 3-0 down at half time, away from home, to get a 3-3 draw against a team fourth in the league.
It was a phenomenal achievement.
Son number one scored twice, the second a superb shot from outside the box. Son number two was resolute in defence.
Such events got me thinking about matches I had played in as a child, usually poorly. But it also made me feel proud. And then I wondered - has any father ever felt proud because their child did well in a computer game? Or on their play station? There is a reality about the football pitch - or the cricket field, or rugby - that does not extend to the virtual world.
