Private Eye has stuck the boot (deservedly) into the repulsive Allason/West a few times over the years. ‘Smear’ is a great history book which like Paul Foot’s book on Colin Wallace shows (among many things) how secret state activities in Northern Ireland in the 70s poisoned UK mainland politics. An excellent article has just uploaded on Lobster issue 64 (winter 2012) about how having failed to get rid of Labour from power by undermining Wilson in 74 there was another try in late 76 when Callaghan was in power during the IMF incident. Worth a read.
