Yes I had seen that before - v interesting.

It also illustrates that US opinion is not monolothic - I have read elsewhere that Carter so disliked the human rights record of Pakistan, that determined US/Pakistan intervention only peaked when Reagan was elected. Yet here we see one of his main advisers acting in a contrary manner.

It is worth noting that Mujahideen resistance also began in 1978, as they regarded it their durty to oppose what they saw as an atheistic government in Kabul.
