I Don't Get It?

The dominant press story over the past few days has been the abduction of Madeleine McCann in Portugal.

Am I the only person who does not understand why the British media seem to think the Portugese police's core job is to report to them, and keep them informed and involved at all levels?

Surely they have far more important things to do?

Not Quite The Full Story?

Mondays Daily Telegraph promised a bit of spice.

Under the heading "A Cure For All Your Ills" Chloe Rhodes managed to write a whole page about Vaseline, without a single double entendre. A truly astonishing achievement.

Her sub-heading though could perhaps be seen as one of the most subtle ever seen in that newspaper:

"Chloe Rhodes examines the origins of petroleum jelly and reveals why it is so popular with Telegraph readers".......

How Do Amazon Do It?

The recommendations on Amazon get ever more bizarre.

Because I added "Mad Dog" by Johnny Adair to my shopping basket, Amazon have recommended "Welcome to My World" by Coleen McLoughlin. Coleen's only contribution to the world being that she is Wayne Rooney's girlfriend.

I know they must be desperate to sell her books, but are they that desperate?

Few posts recently, as I have been in the Republic of Ireland.

Driving in Dublin is not something I recommend........

Why So Many Aphorisms?

Well I decided to plunder one of the best books I have read, to give you an aphorism for most days this month.

With the odd exception most are taken from "The Heretic's Book of Quotations" edited by Charles Bufe. Published by See Sharp Press in Arizona, you should be able to get it from any Anarchist bookshop or mail order.

Such Little Action In 2007?

Apologies for the limited number of posts on this blog so far in 2007.

I have just returned from two weeks in Thailand on a Thai boxing trip, and so only the odd, projected post was added. Despite one black eye and three stitches in the other (taken out today!) normal service should now be resumed!

No More "On This Day"?

I got bored with adding the "On This Day" entries. They were nearly all nicked from the 2004 Class War calendar anyway!

A new regular column, "Aphorisms", will take its place.

The Best Shopping Day of the Year!

Why is Boxing Day the best shopping day there is?

Well, what could be better than seeing all the mean people buying ther Christmas Cards for 2007?

These are the people who have spent half of Christmas Day ironing their wrapping paper so it can be used again next year, and who will be jostling and pushing in queues at 09.01 this morning to make sure they get their cheap Christmas Cards.

Humbug!

The Devotion Of Hachiko

Hachiko

I came across this story by chance the other day - a sort of Japanese version of Blackfriars Bobby.

Read the story of Hachiko here.
