This morning I was filling out the on-line registration for the Anarchist Studies Network conference at Loughborough University in September.
Check out this gem as a great example of the false choices that permeate contemporary society:
"Do you have any special dietary requirements? Please note that the conference food will be vegan"
If only one choice of food is available, why does it matter what my dietary requirements are?

It's important to cater to people who are aceliac or allergic to strawberries. Probably. Tell them that you insist that your food has been liberated from a skip.

Dietary requirements could be gluten/wheat free, nut free, raw etc.
In vegan food there is a wide range of choice (chinese, carribean cuisine etc. or just look at the range of non-dairy milks: soya, oat, hemp, coconut, nut etc.) it just allows everybody, regardless of preference (carnist, vegetarian, lactose-intolerant, kosher, halah etc.) to dine together.

Anarchism is meant to be about the best option not number 2 options.

Anyone with a nut allergy should probably avoid anarchist conferences altogether!

There's nothing wrong with veganism in itself. People do not need to eat meat unless they happen to live in a climate where fruit and vegetables do not grow. But the link with anarchism is really pretty tenuous. You can produce meat and dairy foodstuffs sustainably and also ensure that the animals enjoy happy lives. You can also get vegan food in McDonalds or in Walmart grown by people who are starving to death. Much of our food, vegan or otherwise is produced with crops grown on arable land in the third world. The crops are produced exclusively for export and not for the people that grow them. Exploitation has its roots in a socio-economic system called capitalism. Everything else is a distraction. The system will embrace whatever 'ism' you want to throw at it, as long as it is able to maintain the overall pattern of fucking over the poor.
