For several years now the Fitwatch blog has provided detailed analysis of the police Forward Intelligence Teams - the specialist units which monitor and disrupt political protest in the UK.
Fitwatch has served as a serious embarrassment to the police - not least that those who complain the loudest of a lack of resources and the damage cuts will have on front line policing, often have seemingly limitless budgets when it comes to countering activists whose political views the cops find abhorent.
It appears the police have now taken things to another level by forcing the closure of the Fitwatch site following the intervention of CO11's Acting Detective Inspector Will Hodgeson, who argues that an article on Fitwatch; "Beating Police Repression After The Student Occupation" potentially perverts the course of justice. Interestingly for a man clearly so concerned with upholding the law, it does not appear any court order was used against Fitwatch, merely a request from the police to their web host.
A google cache of the 'offending article' can now be viewed here. In the meantime a temporary Fitwatch site can be viewed here. Do read the article, and of course the Fitwatch material that is still online, and judge for yourself.
