Tuesdays Evening Standard had an opinion piece by the Labour MP Denis MacShane.
In it he advocated London is Labour's for the taking in 2012, and speculated on the need to recast the party in time for the next general election. MacShane clearly believes he has a role to play in this recasting, as we are told at the end of the article "He is working on a book on the future of the European left".
What timing. The next day MacShane was named and shamed, via submissions to the Freedom of Information Act, as one of the MPs who bullied and abused House of Commons staff when tighter expenses legislation was brought in. It seems he later apologised with a box of chocolates.
You can tell a lot about people in authority by how they treat the lower orders. Whatever the future for the 'European left', it is to be hoped this episode demonstrates the difference between Mr MacShane's words and his actions........
