Sad news from Euston.
The Cock Tavern is the type of traditional Irish pub that exists all too rarely in London these days. The decline of an overt Irish community, plus gentrification of so many working class areas has seen to that. Pubs struggle to make money in this economic climate, whilst a large pub, sold off and divided up into flats, makes a comfortable profit for any property developer.
Sadly though the Cock Tavern's problem is not the above but the police - who have objected to the venue's licence. This is a scandal, and one that should be resisted. The first thing readers can do is to join the Facebook group defending the pub here. Next up should be ensure that you pop into the Cock for a pint or two to show your solidarity. Thirdly - sign the petition the landlady has started to show the depth of the support the pub enjoys - and do of course make your views clear to any of Camden Council's officials and election candidates you encounter.
Save the Cock!

I WOULD LIKE TO DROP A FEW LINES, I HAVE KNOWN SHEILA AS A FAMILY FRIEND FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS, I DONT GET UP TO THE COCK TAVERN AS MUCH DUE TO WORK REASONS AND LIVING IN KENT.I AND MY FAMILY FIND THIS PUB VERY FRIENDLY AT ALL TIMES WITH A MIXTURE OF PEOPLE OF ALL CLASSES. CAMDEN COUNCIL SEEM TO HAVE A MIX UP , THIS PUB HAS NOT HAD TROUBLE THAT I KNOW ABOUT IN THE LAST TEN YEARS SHIELA HAS HAD THIS .THIS IS A BUSINESS THAT NOT ONLY EMPLOYS BAR STAFF, THIS WOULD HAVE A KNOCK ON AFFECT TO CORNER SHOPS, BETTING SHOPS& AND SPLIT A COMMUNITY THAT IS IN NEED OF HELP FROM CAMDEN COUNCIL. IT IS A GOOD MEETING POINT DURING THE WEEK FOR PEOPLE WHO WORK IN LONDON WHO DONT GET THE CHANCE AT WEEKENDS TO SEE LIVE FOOTBALL. TRADE UNIONS ALSO HAVE MONTHLY MEETINGS WHICH WOULD BE A KNOCK ON AFFECT AS NOT MANY PUBS WANT THEM. I HOPE THE COUNCIL TAKE NOTE AND CONCENTRATE ON MAJOR ISSUES ALONG WITH POLICE AND SORT OUT SERIOUS ISSUES. WE HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE ON THE DOLE WITHOUT PUTTING MORE.COUNCILERS/ BREWERS/ NEED TO ACT NOW. SAVE THE COCK TAVERN.

Posting in All Caps is not big or clever. It's just uncomfortable to read.
