I would be lost for copy without Hackney Council's propaganda sheet, Hackney Today.
Long a favourite with the boroughs felines (what else do you think goes in their litter trays) Hackney Today occasionally gives you an illuminating snippet.
Take the great merger of 1980s Hackney, with 2008 Hackney, exemplified by Hackney's Peace Walk, scheduled for 1.45pm this Sunday. The stroll, from Stoke Newington Common to the Town Hall, sounds like a great 1980s loony left event, with the Mayor shouting away at world leaders who are hardly likely to factor Hackney into their thinking. If Jules Pipe is really concerned about world peace, perhaps he should ask Meg Hillier MP why she voted to invade Iraq?
Still, Hackney has certainly changed since the 80s. How do we know this? Because as Hackney Today tells us, Sundays walk is supported by the local police. Yes those people you see racing round the borough in big vans armed with CS gas, tasers, guns and extendable batons, all want to see world peace at heart.
Jules Pipe and Steve Dann, you are the Morecambe and Wise of the borough!
