Joe Orton Tribute Site

I am not quite sure what the great Islington based writer Joe Orton would make of Islington today, or for that matter London.

Orton, a working class writer down to his socks, has perhaps become better known for his gay lifestyle than his plays in the 40 years since his murder. Certainly it is hard to imagine a struggling Orton being accepted into large parts of the culture of gay London today - he would be too poor, too sharp, and too working class for the world of Gay barristers, MPs and pink friendly insurance policies.

Alison Forsythe has done a great job chronicling Orton on this website. Check it out!
