Shopping in the Goodge Street branch of Tesco yesterday, I noticed a free newspaper stand.
You do not normally get free papers in Tesco (or indeed free anything) and I took a copy of The Epoch Times from the stand. What is The Epoch Times?
Well firstly it is a weekly newspaper, which at first reading appears to concentrate on health matters and international news, mostly pertaining to China. It clearly has a strong anti-Chinese Communist Party (CCP) bent, serialising "Nine Commentaries On The Communist Party" - a book exposing the CCP. Not exactly the sort of thing you expect to find next to the adverts for Tesco Clubcard.
The newspapers interest in health, and indeed five minutes digging around on the Internet, also makes me suspect that The Epoch Times is linked to the controversial Chinese cult Fulan Gong. I hold no brief for the Chinese Communist Party, or the evil old men who have traditionally run it. But I can also smell a cranky religious rat a mile off.
What the hell is Tesco doing in bed with The Epoch Times?
