Where Is Ken Livingstone Taking London?
It is amusing to read the fuss being made that 50 Muslim 'community leaders' have come forward to call for Muslims to vote for Ken Livingstone in May's Mayoral elections.
Muslims as likely to support the ruling class as anyone else shock! The real question though is where is Ken taking London?Far more serious for the future of London than the views of a few worthies, is the Tammany Hall nature of Ken Livingstone's strategy. He appeals not to voters as individuals, or even as has been traditional in the UK as a class, but as specific groups.
Read his propaganda sheet "The Londoner" and you will see this at work - articles designed to tick a box with the Muslim community, black community, Irish community etc - Londoners are divided into seperate interest groups, usually on the grounds of race.
This institutionalises racial division, and - hypocritically - also results in condemnation when (as night follows day) a politician comes along and says "Vote For Me - I represent the white community". It also leads to the sort of corruption allegations we have seen concerning Lee Jasper in the past few months - any old shyster can take buckets of money from the central purse, providing good work is being 'seen to be done' with a particular community.
Ken is taking London into New York style politics - and that means New York standards of racial tension, division and corruption. Is that really what Londoners want?

It's now being reported that 16 of the groups that signed the letter supporting Livingstone are registered charities.
By law, charities are of course not allowed to engage in political activities and are certainly not allowed to publicly support candidates at elections.
It'd also be interesting to know how many of these groups backing Livingstone are receiving grant funding from his authority.
