Don't Get Carried Away With Mrs Bhutto
It is most likely that Al-Qaeda, elements in the Pakistan government, or both combined attacked Benazir Bhotto's convoy in Karachi yesterday. I think its important that we don't see Mrs Bhutto as some sort of radical, just because of whom she may have been attacked by.
This is a women who had plenty of links of her own to the Taliban when she was in power, and has always been associated with corruption. In one of the poorest countries on earth, she has her own private zoo.
The Pakistan People's Party is not a political party in the normal sense of the word. It is a family cult, that once venerated her dad, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and now venerates his daughter Benazir. Should she be assassinated, the party will either be led by her husband, or more likely the party leadership will be kept open for her two teenage daughters to take on in a few years time.
In Pakistan few things change, although they do get worse.
