A Fag And A Pint

Walking through Shoreditch yesterday it was obvious how many people are enjoying a drink whilst smoking outside the pub.

Police officers being the sort of people they are, and Council officials being the sort of people they are, it cannot be long until there is a concerted attempt to stamp down on this harmless pursuit.

When violence inevitably breaks out in response to needless arrests, we will be told we need tougher penalties to stop people drinking outside pubs - to prevent the very violence the authorities will have provoked! And we will have more of the bans on street drinking that already disfigure many of our cities. This is not Saudi Arabia, no matter how much some people would like it to be.

In this good weather, enjoy your fag and pint outside the pub. Big brother may not let you enjoy it for much longer.
